If you think of the components under the bonnet as an orchestra, the timing belt is the conductor. If it isn’t functioning properly, the ‘orchestra’ goes out of tune. So for the good of the whole engine, you should have the timing belt checked regularly.
Lifespans vary, depending on the vehicle, and most manufacturers have a recommended replacement interval - usually around 60,000km or five years.
When should you replace your Timing Belt?
See your owners’ manual for manufacturer’s recommendation.
If you know your car’s service history, you can work out when it is next due for replacement.
Don’t leave it too long. Problems with the Timing Belt can lead to expensive maintenance work – even engine replacement.
If you’re in any doubt, give your BestDrive by Continental local branch a call or drop into your nearest branch. We’d be happy to advise.
